The UK Chief Medical Officers' (CMOs) Physical Activity Guidelines published in September 2019 refreshed the 2011 guidelines across all age groups.
The guidelines include additional guidance on being active during pregnancy and after giving birth, and for disabled adults.
The guidelines cut across three elements – strengthening, cardiovascular and balance – and state that for good physical and mental health, adults should aim to be physically active every day. Any activity is better than none, and more is better still.
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) provide NICE Guidance on physical activity giving brief advice for adults in primary care on physical activity and quality standards.
The Richmond Group of Charities, a coalition of health and care charities working in partnership with Mind, MS Society, Parkinson's UK and Sport England, have created a Resource Pack aimed at health and care organisations to support the workforce and people living with long term health conditions to be more physically active.
